ECO MUSIC FESTIVAL ASPEN SNOWMASS COLORADO JUNE 30TH – JULY 3RD
By Mike Hardaker

Snowmass, CO – When it comes to allowing music festivals in a ski town, the town council in Snowmass is steps ahead of the rest. This year to kickoff the 4th of July holiday a new event called the Eco Music Festival will take place June 30th (my moms birthday) – July 3rd 2011 in Snowmass Village. Already confirmed are Colorado bluegrass legends Leftover Salmon, the reunion of jamband rockers Perpetual Groove, the silky sweet sounds of Tea Leaf Green, The New Mastersounds, RJD2, and Stokeswood with the headliner yet to be announced. If I am in Colorado at this time of year, you can better believe I will be in Snowmass, this lineup is perfect for hanging outdoors in the high country.

On the environmental side of things Eco will feature the first sustainable festival tent created by Ben Sheppard the designer of the X tent. The festival promoters asked for the help of top designers from The Neenan Company to create a completely sustainable tent for use at the Eco Music Festival. 3 entries were chosen and a contest was held through the social media site Facebook to determine the winners. The X tent, made with Military surplus MC-4 parachutes, wood beams from reclaimed, fire mitigated and pine beetle killed wood took home the win with 169 votes.

The festival is not just for earth loving hippies, Friday July 1st the Eco Climb-It Challenge. (probably the coolest name for a running race I have ever heard of) will test your skills in a 3,000 foot vertical race up Snowmass Mountain to help save the planet. Now I am sold on this event!!! Race registration details and general information can be found at the bottom of this page. Grab a pair of Vibarm FiverFingers running shoes and get real green for the race!!

Lodging in Snowmass is available and a stones throw away from the festival grounds. I just checked through Mountain Reservations and found rooms starting at $52.00 per night over the dates of the concert. More information on bookings can be found here: Mountain Reservations Snowmass.

Throw in free mountain biking, yoga, hiking, capture the flag and more with the cost of your ticket and this just gets better by the minute. For more information on the Eco Music Festival, please visit: http://www.emufestival.com/
